Our guest house is set on one of the most magnificent farms in the Underberg area, with magnificent views of green lush farmlands scattered with cows and sheep.

Close to the twin rural villages of Himeville and Underberg and the spectacular Sani Pass, Elgin farm offers all the peace and beauty of the countryside, as well as the excitement of 4×4 trips into Lesotho, the best fly-fishing in the country, horse-riding and mountain-biking, rock art tours and interesting shops and restaurants.

Our four well-appointed suites are set in two private wings detached from the main farm house, ensuring peace and privacy for our guests. Each room has its own entrance and patio with the most beautiful view imaginable.

Interior

All are double rooms with en-suite bathrooms, while one has a private lounge. Of course, all our rooms are equipped with satellite TV, a heater, hairdryer and a fridge.

Lavish breakfasts are enjoyed alfresco in the warm months and in our sunny farmhouse dining room during winter. Guests can gather to enjoy a drink with hosts Jeannine and Ian in the gracious lounge; dinner is served on request.

From 8 – 14 days forfeit 75 % of the deposit

Elgin Farm is certainly one of the best kept secrets when visiting the Drakensberg. The drive up to Underberg is spectacular - great if you love driving. The guesthouse itself is situated on a working diary farm and they invite you to visit the milking that happens every afternoon. The accommodation is comfortable, location is spectacular and the rates are very reasonable. A perfect place for short stay with the family and kids.

There's really nothing we disliked at Elgin. We loved the friendly staff and helpful manager. We got there very late around midnight and they had complimentary sherry for us and a warm room. The breakfast was good. The views as well. It was a welcomed quiet break from the city.

Penelosc“Spectacular views and true farming hospitality”

Elgin is a little piece of heaven, the rooms are very comfortable and were wonderfully heated for the chilly winter's evening. This is a working farm and even though they were busy with daily farming activities and calving, they kindly went out of their way to show the children around and show then the newly born calves etc. Breakfast was also delicious and we would definitely go back given the opportunity.

If you are looking for a truely relaxing weekend, Elgin Farm is the place to go. Very comfortable accommodation from the electrical blankets, heated flooring, spa bath, fire places to the excellent breakfast. Our days were spend by taking long scenic walks, visit the dairy on the farm or the Cheesary across the street. We were well rested and relaxed when we returned to the Rat Race on Sunday afternoon.

We really enjoyed our short stay in this lovely place! The room was in a little cottage next to the main house, beautifully decorated, with a very nice view and the cows coming nearly to your window in the morning. Breakfast was excellent too. Already the drive to Underberg is very scenic. We were really sad that we could not stay another day..

We stayed for only one night at Elgin Holiday Farm, but loved it. The rooms are large, extremely comfortable and have beautiful views from their own little terraces. This is a working dairyfarm, and it was fun to see the cows heading out in the morning by our window! The breakfast is wonderful and the hostess very helpful. What is more, it is a relatively short drive (less than three hours) from Durban International Airport, so makes a good first stop for weary travellers, which we were. Highly recommended.
